Good Morning, I was happily employed here one summer, entering archives into the libraries card catalog, exceptionally, courteous staff, above and beyond practically achievable recognition, very useful research available including the Marion Anderson original studio a local hero, the first African American to be invited to perform at the Opera House, old schools, coupled with an intimidating portrait of the honorable George Washington, great, safe atmosphere for kids or adults looking to research. Volunteers needed for the general public interaction and communication, no experience necessary.

Best museum in Danbury. The gift shop has beautiful, hand made, high quality jewelry crafted from local artisans. Check out their tours on Saturday to see the Marion Anderson studio, and two other historical buildings right there on the main campus. Or join and become a member, participate in the yearly activities. Worth the visit!

Although Danbury is well known for its hatting industry, this museum reveals more than just that. Experience the studio of Marian Anderson and walk the house of the Ryder family. Learn of Danbury's role in the Revolutionary War and the story of one bad ass girl named Cybil. Overall, quick and informative tours that give you a glimpse of life in Danbury in the 1700s.

Definitely a stop to make for visitors or new residents to Danbury. Explore Danbury’s rich and interesting history with the help of the museum’s knowledgeable historians and extensive archives.

I was curious about the history of the house I live in. The staff was so helpful. I learned that the house was built in 1811! They even made copies for me of the information they had on file, including a photo of the original structure. A historical society is a wonderful resource in any city, but particularly when the people who work there make visiting such a pleasant and educational experience.
